To pay respect to the Native Indians who helped them escape the tyranny of slavery, the Mardi Gras Indians named themselves after Native Indian Tribes. Historically meeting on Mardi Gras day to "settle scores" today's tribes simply meet in the streets to participate in friendly but very competitive, cultural and artistic "dress off". Each tribe's carefully crafted and always original suites are on display and they compete to be "The Prettiest". This is the Mardi Gras that most people don't see. The metal Indian figures are approximately 4"H x 2.5"W
